'Twas the night before Christmas, and deep in the house,
An auditor fretted, his hand on his mouse.
He stared at the ledgers, his heart filled with fear,
In hopes that an answer would make itself clear.
The auditor sighed, with his head in his hands,
As errors and missteps derailed all his plans.
The figures were wonky, the trial went awry,
The family Christmas was passing him by.
“When did this happen? What did I miss?
The figures are muddled and something’s amiss.
He muttered and scrawled on a coffee-stained sheet,
While dreaming of turkey he never would eat.
The clock struck eleven; he gazed at the night,
Knowing tomorrow would bring no respite.
His Christmas was lost to this maddening chore,
To audit accounts that would balance no more.
When down through the chimney there came such a clatter,
He sprang from his chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the window he flew in a burst,
Not sure what he’d see, but expecting the worst.
The moon on the garden through the window aglow
Gave a lustre to everything covered in snow
When what to his overworked eyes should appear,
But a sleigh and eight reindeer. Santa was here!
With a jolly red suit and an all-knowing look,
He said, “Tell me sir, what’s wrong with your books?
You’re tangled in numbers, but have no dismay,
I’ve brought you a tool that will clear up the fray.”
He dug through his bag and pulled out with pride,

And as Santa watched, his cheery smile grew.
"Here’s one last surprise, a subscription for you!"
Then he sprang to his sleigh, his audit work done,
“Come Donner, come Blitzen, it’s now time to run”
And I heard him exclaim as he soared out of sight,
“Happy audits to all, and to all a good night!”
