On Wednesday, we shared some thrilling news. We could barely contain our excitement that our guy Christiaan Coetzee had been nominated as a finalist in The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants Awards.
He was a contender in the Top 35 Under 35 category for all of Africa. So, not just a pat on the back kind of thing, these are the Oscars of the African auditing world. It was quite a moment. The Audit Toolbar, on the shortlist, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with giants like Amazon, BDO and EY. They were terrified.
When you read names like that, you can see this kind of recognition isn’t handed out like conference merch. It’s earned through late nights, hard work, and the occasional "Why the hell are we doing this again?" moment.
So indulge me, while we take a second to remember why this all started, and how far we’ve come?
We didn’t have the fanciest tools or the biggest budget. Just a founder (who was an auditor) losing his mind trying to wrestle with his firm's shitty tech on a client’s site. The short version? He gave up, walked out muttering words that would make your mother blush, and started coding that evening.
A year later, a business builder, black belt, third dan by the name of Piers Mummery (that’s me) turned up and put some commercial wellie into things. The short version? There were customers and then there were investors, and now here we are with 2,500 users.
So does Christiaan belong on that short list? Damn right he does. We’ve made waves, not ripples.
And guess what? He only went and did it. Christiaan took home the prize and was crowned the overall winner. - champion of champions. Wow! HUGE congrats to our man, Christiaan.
I don’t want to go full cheeseburger on this, but this isn’t just a win for Christiaan.
It’s a win for everyone at The Audit Toolbar. You’ve given us everything.
It’s a win for every practice, partner, and practitioner, who’s believed in our vision.
And it’s a big win for auditors everywhere. A win that says, “The industry isn’t stuck in the last century.” It’s evolving and guess what? We’re leading the charge.
We couldn’t be prouder. Christiaan, this one’s for you. But don’t think for a second this is the peak. This is just the beginning.
